چکیده

DNA Sequence, Satellite DNA, Cucumis melo The primary sequence of the prominent Cucumis melo satellite DNA is presented. The cloned Hind Ill-repeat unit has a length of 352 bp and a GC-content of 56%. Within this sequence an inverted repeat of 9 bp, including a 286 bp loop, and one direct repeat are shown. Several open reading frames are possible following the sequence in both directions whose significance is not yet clear. The sequence has been compared with other highly repetitive DNA sequences of Sinapis alba and Scilla sibirica. The genomic satellite DNA exhibits an unusual behaviour in actinomycin D-CsCl gradients in comparison to ribosomal DNA

Repetitive Sequences in Plant Nuclear DNA: Types, Distribution, Evolution and Function

Repetitive DNA sequences are a major component of eukaryotic genomes and may account for up to 90% of the genome size. They can be divided into minisatellite, microsatellite and satellite sequences. Satellite DNA sequences are considered to be a fast-evolving component of eukaryotic genomes, comprising tandemly-arrayed, highly-repetitive and highly-conserved monomer sequences. The monomer unit ...

Satellite DNA: An Evolving Topic

Satellite DNA represents one of the most fascinating parts of the repetitive fraction of the eukaryotic genome. Since the discovery of highly repetitive tandem DNA in the 1960s, a lot of literature has extensively covered various topics related to the structure, organization, function, and evolution of such sequences. Today, with the advent of genomic tools, the study of satellite DNA has regai...

Comparative Analysis of Satellite DNA in the Drosophila melanogaster Species Complex

Satellite DNAs are highly repetitive sequences that account for the majority of constitutive heterochromatin in many eukaryotic genomes. It is widely recognized that sequences and locations of satellite DNAs are highly divergent even in closely related species, contributing to the hypothesis that satellite DNA differences may underlie speciation. However, due to its repetitive nature, the mappi...

Cloning and characterization of KM190, a specific satellite DNA family of Drosophila kitumensis and D. microlabis.

The nucleotide sequences of nine clones, pKA191/1-4 from Drosophila kitumensis and pMR190/1-5 from D. microlabis, were determined. They represent a tandemly arranged and highly repetitive satellite DNA family, KM190, which is specific for the two species.

A subtelomeric satellite DNA family isolated from the genome of the dioecious plant Silene latifolia.

In an ongoing effort to trace the evolution of the sex chromosomes of Silene latifolia, we have searched for the existence of repetitive sequences specific to these chromosomes in the genome of this species by direct isolation from low-melting agarose gels of satellite DNA bands generated by digestion with restriction enzymes. Five monomeric units belonging to a highly repetitive family isolate...
